Azad Foundation

Training the female taxi drivers of tomorrow

India
2016 - 2019

Azad Foundation was established in 2008 to provide resource-poor women living in urban areas of India with dignified livelihoods. HDF grant funding supported its flagship ‘Women on Wheels’ programme to equip women with the skills to become self-sustaining professionals in jobs and markets that have traditionally been closed to them – namely public transport. The initiative also responded to a growing public demand for safe and alternate transport options for women in selected cities in India.
